Being healthy is not something you do periodically, its a life-long commitment to making good choices and picking up on healthy habits to ensure you increase your healthspan. Here are a few healthy habits to get you started on your journey to longevity.

1. Hydrate

Make a habit of drinking at least a half gallon of water daily. I recommend alkaline water or distilled water with a pinch of himalayan salt to allow the water to penetrate your cells. Drinking water helps you flush out toxins, and excess sodium, while keeping your skin hydrated.

2. Watch your alcohol consumption

Alcohol is the nemesis of water in your body, not only does it dehydrate your organs, it also depletes your body of essential vitamins and minerals. Studies also show that alcohol consumption can decrease testosterone while increasing estrogen in men.

3. Say no to salty foods

Foods high in sodium leaves you bloated and can lead to health risk and diseases such as high blood pressure, hypertension, stroke, heart failure and other complications.

4. Limit carbs and sugar

The body treats carbs and sugar the same by converting it into glucose for quick energy, excess glucose spikes insulin levels while getting stored in the liver as cholesterol and body fat. This could lead to obesity and other weight related diseases.

5. Eat more greens

Eating more green leafy vegetables is a great way to increase brain function, improve skin, boost your immune system, and reduce inflammation in the body.

6. Cold showers

Studies have shown that cold showers can strengthen your immune system, speed up your metabolism and improve mental clarity and focus.

7. Cleanse once a month

It’s always a good idea to do some sort of cleanse once a month. Cleansing is a great way to shed excess fat, curb your cravings, and increase mental clarity and focus. A 5-day juice cleanse or raw food cleanse is a great way to get started.

8. Regular exercise

Regular exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health. It’s a great way to keep your mind, body, and spirit feeling young and rejuvenated as you age.

9. Lemon Water

Drinking a glass of water with a slice lemon in the morning is a great way to boost your metabolism, improve digestion, while nourishing your body with vitamin c.

10. Sleep

Finally, getting 6-8 hours of sleep daily is crucial for extending your lifespan, maintain mental health, reducing stress and repairing your body.
